Individualized Treatment & The Bridge Program

Addiction is a complex disease. Every man entering The Last Resort Recovery center is coming in with a unique set of experiences, issues, and views. The therapeutic intervention that helps one man to break free and thrive could be counterproductive to another. At The Last Resort we understand this. That’s why we tailor the treatment experience to meet the specific needs of each man in treatment. Upon admission to The Last Resort, all men spend the first part of their treatment in the “Bridge Program,” a setting on campus that allows for closer medical supervision, monitoring of detox symptoms, seen by a clinical psychologist, and specialized programming. They receive both clinical and 12 step programming, but also eat meals and spend recreation periods with men who have been at TLR for longer periods. New clients spend about 5-7 days in the Bridge program depending on the severity of their detox symptoms, wherein he will gradually transition into regular programming with the rest of the community.

The purpose of this transitory period is to give men the space they need to adapt to the treatment environment and stabilize physically prior to fully engaging the responsibilities and expectations of the recovery community. At TLR, we believe that the body needs to begin its process of healing before any real spiritual and recovery work can take place. Since community remains an equally essential component of our philosophy, this time is also an opportunity for our newer members to meet men who have been in the program longer and who become valuable mentors and sources of support.

Through individualized treatment planning and thorough assessments our clinicians are able to anticipate each clients particular needs and then inform every level of staff regarding this. That means that everyone that interacts with clients is on the same page and has a shared understanding of the best approach for that client. Furthermore, by having a high staff to client ratio there is always an opportunity for additional one on one time. Another key component in our treatment is the camaraderie experienced in small communities. Small groups of men supported by a close-knit and readily available staff have worked miracles in the lives of our clients. It’s a part of our unique treatment model that sets us apart from larger, more impersonal programs, and we’re committed to keeping it intact.

I tried to quit a hundred times. Sometimes I’d make it for a month, sometimes two, but I always wound up back with my drug. What I found [at Last Resort] was the answer to what I’d been searching for in recovery but couldn’t seem to find. They put it all together and they put me together too!
